How to Become a Professional Gamer and Get Paid
Have you fantasized about one day quitting your boring 9 to 5 job, so that you can stay home and play video games all day and get paid for it. Well now here is your chance.
But being a professional gamer is not as easy as you may think it is. It is a very time consuming career that will take a while to launch off before you start to make any real money. It requires a lot of patience and dedication.
The first thing you have to do in order to become a professional gamer is to choose your preferred console. The majority of professional gamers do not play on multiple consoles. They typically choose one to master and stick to it.
Next, you will need to practice, practice and practice until you are good enough to compete with others. This part sounds simple enough, but it can be more difficult than you actually think. You have to practice every aspect of the game. You have to practice as single player, with a team, and watch a ton of game play videos to learn winning tactics.
The next thing you will need to do is make sure you have the right equipment. You will need to make sure you have the right processing speeds, and a good headset in order to communicate with other team members. If you don`t have the right equipment your game could glitch out during a competition which be disastrous. You will also need high internet speeds.
Next, you will need to join a gaming community. You will need to get to know other people in the same area and become a team player in addition to being an individual player. You will then need to keep practicing with your new community to learn different play styles.
Once you have proven yourself in a community, you will need to join a team. Sometimes, when you are really good, the team will seek you out and ask you to join them. Otherwise, you will need to try out for teams, or create your own team.
So now you have practiced individually, joined a team, and became really good, right? Now what? Good question! Now, you will need to start competing in tournaments. Tournaments occur year round, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding them. You will need to compete in tournaments consistently and get better throughout. It will definitely be a learning process. Winning live events is the best way to make money and gain respect at this level of the game.
Once you have competed in tournaments, earned the respect of other players, and shown that you have what it takes to be a professional gamer, it’s time to get sponsored. Sponsors typically provide the equipment you need to be a professional gamer and help you to become a winner.
Of course there are also the odd gaming jobs available which pays you test new games and equipment but these come up rarely.
